Programming checklist

What your radio needs

Most radios need the receive frequency, repeater offset direction, tone mode, tone frequency, and memory name stored correctly. Radios vary, so check your manual or ask for help at a meeting.

If you can hear the repeater but cannot bring it up, check tone, offset, power level, antenna, and whether you are within reliable coverage.

Good first test

Listen first. If clear, identify and ask for a radio check:

β€œThis is [your callsign], radio check please.”

Do not transmit unless you are licensed and operating within your privileges.

On-air practice

Use the repeater with courtesy

Leave pauses, identify, avoid tying up the repeater unnecessarily, and make room for priority or emergency traffic. Nets and club activities are good places to practice.
